Layer by Layer is a transformation project of a former factory hall on the production site of Klöckner- Humboldt-Deutz AG (KHD) in Köln-Kalk. For over a century, KHD manufactured industrial equipment here. We are honoring that history by turning the building into a new production space.
A recycling center, focusing on engaging visitors through interactive workshops. The hall will continue to function as an industrial space, dedicated to large-scale recycling and production.
A space for exploring the possibilities of textiles, exhibiting their flexibility and versatility. It aims to inspire and educate users and visitors about recycling and the unique properties of textile materials. Users will be immersed in different textile environments, experiencing the material in both active and passive ways, promoting its use in a spatial context.
Merging fun and learning in a space dedicated to the possibilities of textiles. Learn how to weave a big textile in the loom workshop using yarn made by recycled textiles, sell clothes in the secondhand shop, attend lectures on recycling, get clothes repaired at the tailor, or fix items yourself in the sewing workshop.
